New forms of governance as a response
to the challenges of the 21st century
The non-profit Alfred Herrhausen Society seeks traces of the future in the present and conceptualises relevant themes for analysis and debate. It works with national and international partners across a range of fields, including policy, academia and business, to organise forums for discussion worldwide. It forges networks and builds temporary institutions to help to find better solutions to German and global challenges.
The focus of its activities is on “New forms of governance as a response to the challenges of the 21st century”. To this end, the Alfred Herrhausen Society, together with its partners, has developed the following projects:
- Denk ich an Deutschland
- Urban Age
- Foresight
- Denk ich an Deutschland
- Urban Age
- Foresight
The "Denk ich an Deutschland" Conference examines the strengths, weaknesses and problems of Germany. Free of any “ban on new ideas” imposed by political parties, the aim is to present an objective, but passionate survey of the current state of politics, the economy and culture in Germany – from various perspectives within and outside of Germany. The Urban Age Conference Series has been dealing with the future of metropolises since its inception in 2005 and analyses the problems facing megacities, while since 2008, Foresight has been addressing the issue of whether, instead of a “clash of futures”, the divergent future plans of the world’s major countries can give rise to common approaches to solutions for the problems facing a multi-polar world.
At Trace Lab, the Alfred Herrhausen Society’s topics laboratory, research is carried out on future topics and corresponding programmes subsequently developed.
