As part of the 58th Berlinale the International Film Festival in Berlin a discussion event was held on February 11, 2008, under the title "Heroes vs. Anti-Heroes: Success Stories in Cinema".
Supported by the Alfred Herrhausen Society, the Berlinale Talent Campus, a platform for the next generation of creative talent in the film industry, organized a podium discussion about heroes and anti-heroes in film: How do actors become heroes in the cinema? What characterizes the traditional (anti-)hero? Why is a loser sometimes made into a hero for the audience? And how does a filmmaker stand working with his anti-hero figure for months?
Panellists were actor and director Julie Delpy; Benjamin Gilmour, scriptwriter and director of "Son of a Lion"; the South-African filmmaker Ralf Ziman; and actor Julia Jentsch, who received the Silver Bear in 2005 in the category best female actor for her role of Sophie Scholl. The discussion was moderated by the experimental director Grahame Weinbren.
