Joint Debates – Berlin-New York Dialogues
A snapshot of urban change in Berlin and New York
On March 7, 2008, the exhibition Berlin-New York Dialogues opened its doors at the German Architecture Centre in Berlin, the DAZ (Deutsches Architekturzentrum). The exhibition is a joint project by the DAZ and the Center for Architecture in New York. After a very well received presentation in New York in autumn 2007, the support of the Alfred Herrhausen Society has made it possible for the exhibition to travel to Berlin.
The exhibition focuses on the unfinished areas in the cities of Berlin and New York, which are currently undergoing processes of major change. Berlin-New York Dialogues examines the methods used in this urban transformation. Concrete architectural examples are presented alongside the urban context. Informal initiatives and the people behind these developments, as well as public-sector and cultural commitment, illustrate the mechanism of urban regeneration.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by Regula Lüscher, Director of the Senate Department for Urban Development Berlin, Michael Frielinghaus, President of the BDA (Association of German Architects), Illya Azaroff, Vice President for Design Excellence at the AIA New York Chapter, Kristien Ring, Director of the DAZ, and Wolfgang Nowak of the Alfred Herrhausen Society.

The exhibition will be on show at the DAZ (Deutsches Architekturzentrum), Köpenicker Strasse 48/49 from March 7 to May 4, 2008.
