The Alfred Herrhausen Society has redefined its Foresight conference series, which starts this year. The new Foresight programme involves a range of studies and discussions examining the question of how to forge common futures in a multi-polar world.

It has emerged from concerns about two contemporary and interrelated processes, namely an increase in global interdependencies and a shift in economic power away from the USA and the OECD. Even as countries become increasingly interdependent, they continue to be distinguished by their own unique histories, assumptions and values that shape the way they approach global challenges.

The new multi-polar order could usher in a period of conflict and stability, but it does not have to. The aim of the Foresight series is to avoid a clash of futures by encouraging a better multilateral understanding of the major challenges facing today’s most influential countries and by promoting a fairer and more functional international order that is better able to recognize and accommodate the views of these key players.

Foresight is organized in cooperation with the British think-tank Policy Network and the Moscow conference is being hosted together with the Russian Council on Foreign and Defence Policy.
