Annual theme 2003: Desperately Seeking Europe
Topic of the year 2003
Europe is on the move: in 2003, more than ever before, Europe stands at the centre of international attention, not only in economic and geopolitical terms but also as a case study in change and change management.
This year provides a special opportunity for taking a critical look at Europe – with the decision to expand the European Union from 15 to 25 member states, a joint European Constitution is to be declared during this time. A year of destiny – and a genuine test for the European Union.

Will the EU be capable of dealing with the two-fold challenge it faces? Where does it stand within the arena of conflicting interests posed by the other European states? What role does Europe play in the world? Europe – a continent searching for itself and its place in the future world order.

The Alfred Herrhausen Society for International Dialogue, a social policy forum of Deutsche Bank, brings together – through publications, public debates and international conferences – the most highly qualified international experts, in order to provide impetus in the search for the Europe of tomorrow.
