The award has been instituted as an international travelling award, associated with the Urban Age, a worldwide investigation into the future of cities organised by the London School of Economics and Political Science and Deutsche Bank’s Alfred Herrhausen Society.

The first Deutsche Bank Urban Age award was conferred in Mumbai, India on 1 November, 2007 at a ceremony inaugurating the Urban Age India Conference. In 2008, the award will be presented to project(s) in Sao Paulo, Brazil to coincide with the Urban Age South America Conference. The following year, the award will travel to Istanbul, Turkey.
